IGNOU launches on-campus PG Diploma in Food Science & Technology

The Indira Gandhi National Open University's (IGNOU's) School of Agriculture (SOA) has launched Post Graduate Diploma in Food Science and Technology programme from July 2011 session. The admissions are on and the last date for submission of application form is July 15, 2011. Only 25 students will be selected on merit basis for admission. This is a one year Full Time On-campus programme and classes will be held at IGNOU Campus, New Delhi.


The aim of this programme is to develop human resource for the fast growing food processing sector and provide knowledge & technical competencies to address the emerging issues of processing, product development, food safety, marketing, export & sustainable use of resources. Existing technicians, managers, food industry professionals & technologists can also join the programme to strengthen their knowledge & technical proficiencies and to have vertical career mobility.

The graduates in Agriculture/Food Technology/ Dairy Technology/ Horticulture/Home Science/ Agriculture Engineering are eligible for the admission. Even the other science graduates with two year professional experience in food processing industry/academic institutions can also join the programme.

The students will have the exposure to the food industry as one month hands-on training in food industry is a compulsory component of this programme. This programme will train the students for jobs such as Food Technologist in research and development departments of food processing industries, educational & research institutes; Food Science & Technology professionals in Quality Control/ Quality Assurance Management departments in food/ hospitality/ retail industry and laboratories; Production Executives and Marketing executives in food production industries; and Food Safety Officers in Government regulatory bodies. Besides, this will also encourage the students for self employment as entrepreneurs in dairy, meat, fish and poultry, fruits and vegetables, cereals, pulses and oilseeds processing set-ups.
