Part Time Jobs and Summer Internships are the New Buzzwords!

Guests are gone. Celebrations are over. Amit sitting in his room is wondering "what next?" He calls up his friends to discuss all the ways via which he can make their summer vacations more interesting. Prathna too is on another hand bored of surfing channels and gorging onto homemade food. But there are also youngsters who are making most of their spare and leisure time by taking up Part time jobs.

Nidhi, 17, unlike most of her batch mates, has taken up a part time job in a food joint to earn a few extra bucks. She says "I was bored sitting at home all the time and wanted to make my summer vacations productive. A friend of mine suggested me to take up this part time job. Initially I hesitated but now I totally find it worth. I get to earn around 8 thousand which is pretty cool. It gives me confidence to step ahead in life."

Nidhi isn't alone, Smriti, 18, too works at a parlor for around 4 hours a day and gets to earn good deal. Being a career driven girl, she wants to be independent in life as soon as possible. Working in the parlor she says, gave her a boost in confidence and an opportunity to build customer relations. "With college period commencing in July, I was left with more than two months of idle time. Asking money from parents was embarrassing after a point, so I took up this part time job thinking it to be of some help. Today, I'm glad that I did take it up."

Recently after finishing his 12th class exams, Manish took up a summer internship program to learn about intricacies of technical and report writing. For him 'it's an opportunity to evolve as a person and to learn about fields one hardly focuses on daily day-today life.'

Nowadays, young guns are aspiring to utilize their spare time and so are taking up Part time jobs. They have been doing so, not only to earn a few extra money but also to add credentials to their profile. For this emerging brigade, the opportunity to work for a period of 6 to 8 weeks is about gaining experience, earning quick fat money and spending time in a learning environment.

Talking to Shiksha, Rishabh, a college student said, "Photography has always been my hobby cum passion. Through this summer internship program I get to follow my dream. What more could have I asked for."
Considering the fact, that these young passionate souls have invaluable experience, these jobs and internships prove to be attractive ventures with good returns. Those who join in as trainees, get to learn nuances of their profession. Moreover, towards the end of the training period, they get to attain Certificates as well as ‘Letters of Appreciation.' A few sincere and hardworking ones even receive placement proposals.

Youngsters today can work in various domains like:

• Fast food joints
• Retail outlets
• Malls
• BPOs
• Consulting firms
