Delhi University lost answer scripts of the sociology have now taken a new turn. The 112 students from this discipline of Janki Devi Memorial College were now asked to re-appear for the paper in late August. The notice was issued by the University. However, the university authorities did not state any reason for the re-examination.

The students of BA (Honours) English, Philosophy, Sanskrit and Political Science, who had been waiting for their results, were notified on July 20 that they have to reappear for their sociology course on August 19. At the first instance, students appeared for the examination in May.

According to Rita Sinha, a faculty member with the English Department of the college, this will not be the qualifying paper, but a discipline course, the credits of which will be added to the final score. The university authorities also notified The Janki Devi College and the students verbally that the answer scripts of the paper they wrote in May have been lost. Meanwhile, the students cannot ask for a re-evaluation of any of their papers as their marksheets will not be released until this paper is checked and by the time their results are declared, the period for applying for re-evaluation will be over, said Rita Sinha.

The students are accusing the University of covering up the issue and waited till July-end. Though, by July 1 they had realized that the papers were missing. Students said that the authorities were aware of DU lost answer scripts. Students were astonished that at the crucial time of results declaration, the university authorities were dilly-dallying. It was then that they smelled a rat and compelled the officials to come up with this real story. However, in this entire drama it was students who were at the receiving end and have to give the exam again.

On the other hand, Dean of examinations R C Sharma said, that the packet containing the answer scripts was missing and efforts are being made to relocate the same. Mr. Sharma said that since the process will cause delay, the university authorities have decided to initiate the re-examination process.

Adding further, the Dean said that once the examination is over, responsibility will be fixed as to why the answer sheet mess happened. Thereafter students will get the opportunity of applying for re-evaluation as well.
