Single MBA Entrance from 2013
The All India Council for Technical Education will be conducting a common admission test from 2013 due to the multiple entrance exams taking place across the country. This test will comprise admissions to MBA as well as other post graduate management programmes.
This decision of holding a pan-India Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) was taken at a recent executive council meeting of AICTE. Though this exam will start from 2012 but students will be admitted from 2013 on the basis of the CMAT scores.
Each state has its own entrance along with the private institutions who also conduct their own entrances. This entrance will not only reduce the stress level but it will be more cost effective. Deemed universities and Indian Institute of Management (IIM) will continue to hold their entrances. There are 4,000 colleges under CMAT who offer MBA and 500 that offer diploma programmes. The main concern was the varying difficulty levels of these entrances that will lead to raise concerns about the quality of students pursuing MBA. MAT or Management Aptitude Test is taken by 3.85 lakh students which is held four times a year. Hari Krishna Maram a member of the governing council welcomed this idea but showed doubt as different universities have different admission schedules
