University of Calcutta Admission Entrance 2011 for Ph. D Programme in Political Science

University of Calcutta Admission Entrance 2011 for Ph. D Programme in Political Science will be held on 29th July, 2011 at 12 noon. The total number of seats for the Ph. D Programme for 2011-2012 is 10. The test will be of one hour duration and based on the core papers of the Post Graduate syllabus of Political Science of the University of Calcutta.

Students admitted to the Ph. D Programme will have to take 4 courses of 25 marks each. (At least 1 from the courses offered under Research Methods). Courses will be offered under the following papers:

  • Paper 1: Research Methodology: Theories and Techniques (compulsory, including computer applications for all);
  • Paper 2: Political Theory and Political Sociology
  • Paper 3: Society and Politics in India
  • Paper 4: International Relations and Public Administration. Each paper will have sub-areas under which specific courses will be offered.

Candidates qualified in NET/SET/ M. Phil exam are not required to appear in the admission test but need to qualify in the interview. However, students must apply for the course within 22nd July 2011.

The Court of Directors of the East India Company sent a despatch in July, 1854 to the Governor-General of India in Council, suggesting the establishment of the Universities of Calcutta, Madras and Bombay. In pursuance of that despatch, the University of Calcutta was founded on JANUARY 24, 1857.

The University adopted in the first instance, the pattern of the University of London and gradually introduced modifications in its constitution
