Tamil Nadu colleges reopens after 8 months with thin attendance on Day 1; guidelines followed

Even with the colleges across the state reopening after a gap of nearly eight months very few students attended the classes on Day 1 of the reopening. 

Colleges in Tamil Nadu reopened after a gap of nearly eight months owing to the outbreak of COVID-19 and subsequent lockdown. The Tamil Nadu government has allowed only Postgraduate and research scholars students to attend colleges. However, as per reports, all colleges across the state reported very few students attending the classes on Day 1 of the reopening. 

With the reopening of college from December 2 as instructed by the state government, arts and science, and professional colleges across Tamil Nadu reopened their doors to students again after a gap of nearly seven months. With the COVID-19 situation still being serious, colleges and higher education institutions in the state were instructed to strictly follow all the necessary standard operating procedures and guidelines released by the government for the reopening.

Colleges conducted thermal scanning of students before allowing them entry onto the campuses and also provided hand sanitizers at the entry gates to ensure their safety against the contagion.

Even with colleges reopening after such a long gap, most of the students preferred to stay away from the campus owing to the COVID-19 scare in the state. While in Chennai, many students who hail from the city reported back to colleges, many students who reside in remote areas were unable to make it back to colleges due to lack of transportation facilities. On the other hand, many parents have also expressed their reservations against sending their children to colleges due to lack of transportation and due to serious pandemic situation. Following the reopening on December 2, colleges are planning to have their online semester exams from the second week of December.
