Mystory@Jatan Dave

After completing high school, I was pretty clear that I’ll choose commerce. Since primary school I hated science, particularly physics and chemistry. As I enjoy Maths and was interested in management too, I decided to opt for Commerce. There was no peer or parental pressure on me to choose either Science, Commerce or Arts. It was solely my decision and I am glad that it worked out for me.

In fact, I was indeed very confused after I finished Class 12. There was a plethora of options in front of me that would lead to different careers. So, during my vacation I searched a lot about which course to pursue. I analyzed many options and found that Bachelor in Business Administration most suitable for me.

The reason why I chose BBA is pretty simple. I like business and management very much. Also the scope in this field is much wider than it seems. Though BBA was my last option, it worked out the best for me. Initially, I wanted to pursue Masters as well but looking at the current scenario, I am not very sure now.

How I cracked college admission

When I decided to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, the question was -- from which college? Of course like most of the people, I wanted to do it from a good, reputed College or University. I chose Ahmadabad as my study destination because many of my friends and my brother had studied there and I must admit their progress were influential in helping me choose that city.

Then came the admission process. It was pretty simple and centralised for all colleges affiliated to Gujarat University. We had to collect a unique code from a particular bank and apply online. We had to set our preferences of colleges. My first preference was Gujarat Law Society or GLS (JP Shah College), on the suggestion of my brother. Admission at GLS is based on Class 12 grades so I didn’t have to prepare for any entrance test. Fortunately, I got a seat in GLS. Other colleges of my preference were Som Lalit College and LJ Institute, second and third respectively. But their admission process was lengthy and tiresome.

What I gained from college experience

This college has taught me a lot and I’ve had my fair share of ups and downs as well.

Needless to say, life in college is stupendous. You can never relive that time or those special moments spent in college. My journey at GLS has been amazingly awesome. I’ve changed as an individual immensely. It seems like it was just yesterday that I entered this college for the first time to secure admission.

Like every other student I enjoyed my time in college. I participated in different activities; be it sports, cultural, singing or management competitions. I also volunteered for a lot of on-stage and off-stage competitions. I even represented our college in many inter-college competitions and have won a few times. In my college, there is a perfect balance between academics and co-curricular activities.

Being a studious fellow (as l am referred to many times), I attended almost all the lectures. I tried to attend as many as possible because I hadn’t taken coaching earlier. I enjoyed all the subjects except Accountancy/Taxation because I found them very boring.

Like I said earlier, now I am mature and a lot more focused and responsible person than I was when I walked into GLS for the first time. This college has taught me a lot and I’ve had my fair share of ups and downs as well. In a nutshell, my alma-mater was a life changing experience for me in many ways.
