Post Matric Scholarship 2026-27 applications are open on the National Scholarship Portal. Students who have passed Class 10 and are studying in Class 11 or Class 12 can apply. Four schemes come under this name. One is for SC students, one for ST students, one for OBC, EBC and DNT students, and one for students with benchmark disability. The family income limit is INR 2.5 lakh per year in all four schemes.

For Class 11 and Class 12 students, the amount ranges from INR 2,300 per year to INR 5,000 per year in the general category schemes. It depends on your scheme and whether you stay in a hostel. Students with disabilities can get fee support up to INR 1.40 lakh per year. Applications are submitted at scholarships.gov.in. The last date is October 31, 2026.

The National Scholarship Portal opened for the 2026-27 academic session on June 1, 2026. Applications for all Post Matric Scholarship schemes are being accepted through the same portal.

Latest Update: One Time Registration is mandatory before applying. Students need an Aadhaar-linked mobile number and face authentication to generate the OTR number. Complete this step first, then fill the scholarship form.

What is Post Matric Scholarship?

Post Matric Scholarship is a set of central government schemes for students studying after Class 10. The word “post matric” means after matriculation. Four separate schemes carry this name. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment runs two of them. The Ministry of Tribal Affairs runs one. The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities runs the fourth.

These schemes cover students in recognised schools and institutions across India. Class 11 and Class 12 students studying under boards such as CBSE and other recognised state boards can apply, provided they meet the scheme conditions.

Which Post Matric Scholarship Should You Apply For?

Your category decides your scheme. You cannot choose between them.

Class 11 and Class 12 Students

All four schemes cover Class 11 and Class 12. In the SC and PM-YASASVI schemes, these classes fall under Group 4. In the ST scheme, they fall under Group IV. Apply under the scheme that matches your category certificate.

Students of every recognised board are covered. This includes students of state boards such as Bihar School Examination Board and Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education, along with other recognised boards across the country.

Category-Wise Selection

Post Matric Scholarship Eligibility 2026-27

Some conditions are common to all four schemes. Others change from scheme to scheme.

Family Income Limit

The income ceiling is INR 2.5 lakh per year in all four schemes. This is the combined income of parents or guardians from all sources. Income means gross income before any deduction. If both parents work, both incomes are added. The income of a brother or sister is not counted.

An income certificate is needed only once. You take it at the time of admission. For a course that runs more than one year, you do not need a fresh certificate every year.

Eligible Courses and Schools

Senior secondary courses after Class 10 are covered. This includes Class 11 and Class 12 in both general and vocational streams. Your school must be recognised by a government board. Students studying under boards such as Tamil Nadu State Board and UP Board are covered, along with other recognised state and central boards.

For the SC and PM-YASASVI schemes, the school must have a UDISE code. The school must also maintain Aadhaar-based attendance.

Post Matric Scholarship Amount 2026-27

Each scheme has its own amount table. The amount depends on your course group and whether you are a hosteller or a day scholar.

Post Matric Scholarship for SC Students

This scheme pays an academic allowance every year. Compulsory non-refundable fees, including tuition fee, are paid separately. Class 11 and Class 12 fall under Group 4.

Divyang students get 10 per cent extra academic allowance. Students in correspondence or online courses do not get the academic allowance.

Post Matric Scholarship for ST Students

This scheme pays a stipend. Class 11 and Class 12 fall under Group IV. The group definitions here are different from the SC scheme.

Divyangjan students get an extra disability allowance. Hostellers get INR 800 per month, which is INR 9,600 per year. Day scholars get INR 600 per month, which is INR 7,200 per year.

The fee component is fixed by the State Level Fee Fixation Committee. For private institutes, the central support has a ceiling of INR 1 lakh per year for these courses.

PM-YASASVI Post Matric Scholarship

This scheme combines an academic allowance and a tuition fee component into one yearly figure. Class 11 and Class 12 fall under Group 4.

Under this scheme, 30 per cent of the allocated funds are set aside for girl students. Another 5 per cent is set aside for students with disabilities.

Post Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities

This scheme has a completely different structure. There is no course group system here.

This scheme has 17,000 slots per year, including renewal cases. Half the slots are reserved for female candidates. Fresh applications are considered only after all renewal cases are processed. Meeting the eligibility does not guarantee the scholarship, because the slots are fixed.

What Expenses Does It Cover?

The fee component covers compulsory non-refundable fees. This includes enrolment fee, registration fee, tuition fee, games fee, union fee, library fee, magazine fee and medical examination fee. Refundable deposits are not covered. Caution money and security deposit are excluded. Board examination fees charged by boards such as Punjab School Education Board and West Bengal Board of Secondary Education follow the fee rules set by each state.

Check your state portal separately if your state runs its own scholarship system. Some states process Post Matric Scholarship through their own portals.

Post Matric Scholarship OTR Registration

One Time Registration is the first step. You cannot apply without it. The OTR number is a 14-digit lifetime ID. You use the same number every year.

Follow these steps to generate your OTR.

1. Go to scholarships.gov.in and click on the OTR option

2. Enter your Aadhaar number and Aadhaar-linked mobile number

3. Verify the OTP received on your mobile

4. Complete face authentication using the required app

5. Fill your basic details as they appear on Aadhaar

6. Submit and note down your 14-digit OTR number

3. Fill your personal details, including name, date of birth and address

4. Enter your academic details, class and school details

5. Enter your category, income and domicile details

6. Fill your bank account details, which must be Aadhaar seeded

8. Check every entry once before final submission

Your application then goes to your school for verification. After that it moves to the district and state level.

Self-declaration or an affidavit of self-assessed income is not accepted. The income certificate must come from a notified authority.

How to Check Post Matric Scholarship Status

Log in to the portal with your OTR number and check the dashboard. Your application ID shows the current stage.

If your status stays at pending verification for a long time, contact your school’s nodal officer.

Post Matric Scholarship Payment

The payment comes through Direct Benefit Transfer. The amount goes straight into your Aadhaar-seeded bank account. Payments are processed through the Public Financial Management System.

Payment Process

Your application moves through institute verification, then district verification, then state verification. After that it is sanctioned. The sanctioned amount is released through DBT. In the disability scheme, maintenance allowance is payable from April or from the month you joined, whichever is later.

Approved but Money Not Received

Check these points if the status shows approved but nothing has come.

• Confirm your bank account is active and not dormant

• Check that your Aadhaar is seeded with that bank account

• Check the NPCI mapping status of your account

• Confirm the account number and IFSC code entered in the form

• Check if the sanction has moved to payment stage on the portal

Why Was My Application Rejected or Marked Defective?

Most rejections happen for reasons students can fix.

If your application is marked defective, read the reason shown on the portal. Correct it and resubmit within the allowed period.

Can You Apply for More Than One Post Matric Scholarship?

Can You Apply for Two?

No. Your category decides your scheme. An SC student applies only under the SC scheme. An ST student applies only under the ST scheme. There is no overlap between the four schemes.

Can You Receive Two at the Same Time?

No. A student who receives a Post Matric Scholarship cannot take another scholarship or stipend at the same time. In the disability scheme, payment stops from the date you accept any other scholarship. Also, a student who is pursuing two courses together can take the scholarship for only one course.

Post Matric Scholarship Renewal

Renewal is for students who already received the scholarship and are continuing the same course.

Who Needs to Renew

If you got the scholarship last year and you are still in the same course, apply as a renewal case. If this is your first application, apply as fresh. Do not submit both.

Renewal Conditions

You must have moved to the next class. A Class 11 student moving to Class 12 applies as a renewal case. You should meet the attendance requirement set by your scheme and school. In the SC scheme, students continuing a course already sanctioned in the previous year are renewed automatically. Students of boards such as Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education and Telangana Board follow the same renewal route through the portal.

How to Login

Go to scholarships.gov.in. Click on the student login option. Enter your OTR number and password. Complete the OTP verification.

Forgot Password

Use the forgot password link on the login page. Enter your OTR number. Reset the password using the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.

Unable to Login

Check these points:

• Check that you are using the OTR number, not the application ID

• Clear your browser cache and try again

• Try a different browser if the page does not load

• Wait and retry if the portal is busy near the last date

Mobile or Aadhaar Details Incorrect

Your mobile number must be linked to your Aadhaar. If it is not, visit an Aadhaar centre and update it first. You cannot complete OTR without this. For a name or date of birth mismatch, correct your Aadhaar record before applying.
