What is SSP Karnataka Scholarship Portal
SSP stands for State Scholarship Portal. It is owned and maintained by the Centre for e-Governance, Government of Karnataka. Before SSP, each welfare department ran its own scholarship system. Students had to apply at different places. SSP brought all of them together.
Today the portal covers 19 departments and more than 60 active schemes. Around 35,00,000 students get help through it every year. Money is paid by Direct Benefit Transfer into the student's Aadhaar-seeded bank account. Many SSP scholarship recipients go on to study at state universities. Bangalore University is a common choice among them. Other government colleges across Karnataka are also popular.
The portal has two separate login sections.

Your college type also matters. Government and aided colleges are covered by almost every scheme. Students at large private universities such as Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Christ University or PES University should read the seat type rule carefully. Many schemes do not accept management quota, COMED-K or private seat admissions.
SSP Scholarship Eligibility Criteria 2026-27
Eligibility changes from scheme to scheme. But a few rules run across the whole portal. You must be studying in Karnataka. Your family income must be below the limit set by your scheme. KSOU and evening college students are also left out of several schemes. Students at universities such as Visvesvaraya Technological University, Bangalore University and the University of Mysore are covered, as long as the seat type rule is met.

SSP Registration and NSP OTR Number
Two things must be ready before you fill the form. The first is your SSP account. You create it with your Aadhaar number. Enter your name exactly as printed on your Aadhaar card. Then add your gender, mobile number and email ID. Your User ID comes to your mobile number.
The second is your NSP OTR number. OTR means One Time Registration. It is issued by the National Scholarship Portal, not by SSP. SC, ST and OBC students must have it. You will need to download an app for biometric authentication while creating the OTR.
Two more registrations matter.
-
Your family must be registered in the KUTUMBA software. You can check your Kutumba ID at kutumba-services.karnataka.gov.in.
-
Your academic data must reach SSP through UUCMS. If your college or board does not use UUCMS, it must send data to the UNIDATA server.
Students at colleges such as RV College of Engineering, MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology and BMS College of Engineering should confirm with their office that this data has been sent.
How to Apply for SSP Scholarship 2026-27 Online
The steps are the same for every scheme. Only the details asked will change.
-
Create your account. Go to ssp.karnataka.gov.in. Choose the pre-matric or post-matric login as per your class. Enter your Aadhaar number and complete registration.
-
Log in and open the form. Use the User ID sent to your mobile. Select the scheme you want.
-
Fill your academic details. Post-matric students enter their Class 10 registration number and passing year. First-year degree students also enter their Class 12 or PUC registration number. Pre-matric students enter their SATS ID instead.
-
Enter your certificate numbers. Give the 15-digit RD number of your caste, income or EWS certificate. You do not upload the certificate. The portal checks it directly with the Revenue Department. Add your UDID number if you are applying under the disability category.
-
Add course and admission details. Enter your university or board registration number. If you joined through government counselling, enter your counselling number and admission year.
-
Select your residential status. Choose day scholar or hosteller. Hostellers must already be entered in the State Hostel Portal or in SSP-HMIS by the warden.
-
Complete e-attestation. Upload the documents your scheme asks for. A department officer will verify and sign them online.
-
Review and submit. Check every field. Submit the form and save the acknowledgement.
Your form then goes to your college for verification. After that it moves to the taluk officer and then the district officer.
Commonly asked questions
Usually not. Most schemes are not top-up schemes. Only the construction workers' assistance and the Cash Award to Students allow it.
Call 1902 for any technical problem on the portal. For scheme-specific questions, contact your welfare department directly.
Documents Required for SSP Scholarship
Keep these ready before you start. The list below is the official one for post-matric applicants.
-
Aadhaar number and your name exactly as printed on Aadhaar
-
Your mobile number
-
Your email ID
-
SSLC or Class 10 registration number
-
The 15-digit RD number of your caste and income certificate
-
UDID number, if you are applying under the disability category
-
Your district, taluk, Vidhan Sabha constituency and home address
-
College enrolment or registration number
-
E-attestation number for the documents that need it
-
Hostel details, if you are a hosteller
Pre-matric students need their SATS ID instead of the college registration number. Some schemes ask for extra proof. For example, an unclean occupation certificate, a construction worker ID, a FRUITS ID or a defence service certificate.
SSP Scholarship Payment and DBT Process
Payment is made only after your application clears all verification levels. The money is sent by Direct Benefit Transfer. Your bank account must have Aadhaar seeding. This is not optional. Without it, you cannot even submit the application. If your Aadhaar is seeded with the wrong bank, use the Bharat Aadhaar Seeding Enabler to move it to the correct one.
Universities and boards must also publish your result on the National Academic Depository. OBC and minority applications will not show up for approval until this is done. Students at Bangalore University, Karnatak University Dharwad and Mangalore University can check this with their examination section.
Why SSP Scholarship Applications Get Rejected
Most rejections happen for reasons students could have avoided. Check this list before you submit.
| Problem |
What It Means |
|---|---|
| Aadhaar not seeded with your bank account |
Payment cannot be released, and the form may not submit |
| Name mismatch with Aadhaar |
The portal cannot verify your identity |
| Wrong or invalid RD number |
Caste and income cannot be checked with the Revenue Department |
| Not registered in KUTUMBA |
The portal cannot confirm your family details |
| Academic data missing in UUCMS or UNIDATA |
Your marks and bonafide status cannot be pulled |
| Result not published on NAD |
OBC and minority applications stay stuck |
| Management, COMED-K or private seat admission |
Most schemes do not cover these seat types |
| Detained or discontinued in the previous year |
Almost every scheme rejects this |
| Backlog in the previous year |
Vidyasiri, PM YASASVI and minority schemes need all subjects passed |
| Hostel entry not made |
Hosteller schemes need SHP or SSP-HMIS entry by the warden |
| More than two boys from one family |
BCWD and Arya Vysya schemes apply a sibling limit |
| Income above the scheme limit |
The scheme becomes invalid even if everything else is correct |
Can You Apply for More Than One SSP Scholarship
Usually you cannot. Most SSP schemes are not top-up schemes. If you already receive a scholarship from one department, you cannot take a second one. The Agriculture, Handlooms and Fisheries department schemes state this clearly. So do the Collegiate Education girls' fee reimbursement and HIV and Leprosy schemes.
Two schemes work differently. The construction workers' education assistance and the Cash Award to Students are top-up schemes. You can receive them along with another scholarship. The Backward Classes Welfare Department also has its own rule. You can take only one of three benefits: a hostel seat, Vidyasiri food and accommodation support, or a post-matric scholarship.
If you are unsure, ask your college scholarship officer. Colleges such as Christ University Bangalore, St Joseph's University and Mount Carmel College have staff who handle SSP queries.
SSP Portal Login and Common Problems
A few problems come up again and again. Here is how to handle them. Choose the right login. Class 1 to 10 students must use the pre-matric login. Class 11 and above must use the post-matric login. Using the wrong one is the most common mistake.
If your User ID does not arrive, check that your mobile number is active and linked to Aadhaar. If your name does not match, update your Aadhaar first, then register again. If your Kutumba ID is missing, register at kutumba.karnataka.gov.in before you continue. If nothing works, call the SSP helpline on 1902.
