The institute has a PhD programme in both full-time as well as part-time modes. The programme is affiliated to University of Madras, Chennai. It is offered majorly in eight specialisations as well as other Management and allied areas of Research. Candidates are required to appear for the written test, followed by a PI round for LIBA Chennai PhD admission. The admission process for PhD programme is generally conducted twice a year (August and January). As per the eligibility criteria, candidates who have graduated in any discipline from a recognised university with a minimum of 50% marks aggregate are eligible to apply for the programme.
