The process to apply to Sir M. Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology (Sir MVIT) Bangalore is done through the KCET process (for Karnataka students), COMED-K (which is open to all students), or there is the Management quota. All students must qualify by completing the eligibility of 10+2 with minimum of 45% (40% for reserved categories) in Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry. For students who are completing entrance exams, (either KCET or COMED-K), they must register for the exam, take the exam, and then participate in centralized counselling to select Sir MVIT. For the students who are attending via the management seats, the students can request an application from the College or the Trust office directly. Once a student is allotted will be notified by the reservations beyond which they must submit documents for verification, fees, and of course establish verification to complete the admission process.

The faculty members at Sir MVIT are highly qualified with many holding Ph.D. degrees. Faculty members are accessible and helpful. Students often mention knowledgeable teachers, especially in the Computer Science, ECE, and core engineering streams, who assist them in resolving doubts, helping with a project, and preparing for exams. There are, however, mixed experiences — some students describe teaching as "average". According to other students, while faculty are generally available and friendly, the depth of instruction can vary, and in some cases, in Mechanical and Civil/Build, there seems to be reliance on less experienced faculty. Some students mentioned unfavourable experiences, e.g. some syllabi were outdated or that some instructors were unprepared (e.g., one student mentioned that a Python faculty member had a poor background in Python), but this is not common. In summary, we can affirm that the faculty quality at Sir MVIT is decent and dependable, with insights into some solid areas of experience in key technical departments and solid support for students, understanding that their educational experience may differ among streams, and among individuals/groups of instructors.
