The quality of food available at the hostel mess in Solamalai College of Engineering is generally said to be average. Though some of the students were hardly satisfied with the food quality, there is another stream saying food items differ every day. The mess is clean and hygienic, which helps a lot in being a positive aspect. However, other reviews suggest that the infrastructure of the senior hostels is even better compared to that of first-year hostels, which may also determine dining conditions. In general, the food may not be exceptional but meets the minimum standards and provides enough choice for the students.

Santhi, who has more than 27 years of teaching experience with active involvement in research that boasts of an improved academic ambiance of the college. Professors and assistant professors have been placed in the institution with some holding postgraduate degrees and also having work experience in the industry which strengthens the framework of education. While few students appreciate the dedication and support of the faculty, others complained about inconsistency in teaching effectiveness and lack of systematic rules for faculty members. Through Management Quota one can get admission to B.E. / B.Tech in Solamalai College of Engineering (SCE) without TNEA (Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions). Though TNEA is the primary admission process for students to enter through the government quota, the college admits students through the management quota, where the student's selection is purely based on candidate 10+2 marks with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as core subjects, and in some cases, even through an internal assessment of the institution. The fees for management quota seats are also usually higher than the fee for a government quota seat. The college may be contacted for the details.
