Knowing your priorities can help you decide which school, School of Petroleum Management (SoM) or S.V. Institute of Management (SVIM), is better. SoM strengths are NIRF #94 MBA ranking (India), good industry connections, specialisation in energy and infrastructure management, and reasonable prices. Drawbacks are Small programme focus (energy mostly), relatively new university, and location (Gandhinagar) may not be suitable for everyone. The SVIM strengths are good placements, a central location (Tirupati), a wide range of MBA curriculum options, an established institute (formed 1989), and an NIRF #34 MBA ranking (India), and drawbacks are less emphasis on the energy industry and more expensive than SoM.

Compared to private B-schools in India, SoM is considerably more affordable. The annual fees for the flagship MBA programme in Energy and Infrastructure Management are around INR 65,000 for general category and INR 32,500 for SC/ST category. This is significantly lower than the fees charged by many private B-schools, which can range from INR 10 Lacs to 20 Lacs or even higher for top programs. However, within government colleges, SoM might be slightly on the steeper side. Some government colleges offer MBA programs for as low as INR 10,000-20,000 per year.Ultimately, affordability is relative. So, while SoM isn't the cheapest option, it offers good value for your investment, especially if you're passionate about the energy sector.
