Normally, it is a cut above 80 marks to join the Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) for students in the JEE Main exam. But there might be variations due to other reasons, such as the number of candidates, in addition to their overall performance, so it changes every year. Cut off marks are determined

| B.E. / B.Tech | Mandatory subjects in 12th - Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics Lateral Entry Eligibility Candidate must have completed Diploma of 3 years in IT or CSE (after 10+2 or matriculation) preferably from Himachal Pradesh State Board of Technical Education or B.Sc. degree with Mathematics and Physics with minimum of 60% marks in aggregate from recognised University. For sponsored category candidate must have 3 years of experience of working in Government sector /Public Sector Units /Industry related to Information Technology/ Computer Science Engineering. For Lateral Entry Candidate must have completed Diploma of 3 years in IT or CSE (after 10+2 or matriculation) preferably from Himachal Pradesh State Board of Technical Education or B.Sc. degree with Mathematics and Physics with minimum of 60% marks in aggregate from recognised University.
