IIITs given nod to Single National Level Entrance Test
Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) have given its approval to the single national-level entrance test for admission to undergraduate programme for science and engineering. A proposal to form a council for the IIITs was also approved in the meeting of the IIITs directors held on 28 November, 2011 and it was headed by Kapil Sibal, HRD minister of India.
T Ramasami Committee report has recommended the proposal to conduct a common entrance test in India and this proposal has been already approved by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs).
It has been also proposed in the report to combine the school and national level test performance for admission to undergraduate courses in order to reduce the number of entrance tests and dependency on coaching centers.
The Central Advisory Board of Education will give the final nod before introducing single entrance test in the academic session of 2013-14. Other issues which were discussed in the meeting include planning research activity and academics at IIITs in a more systematic way, bringing pay equality and other administrative affairs and some more.
