• Power Engineering: Transformers, electric motors, generators, inverters, high voltage engineering and power grids are some of the specializations of this field. The future in this field however lies in satellite-controlled power systems with real-time feedback systems.
• Control Engineering: Electrical circuits, microcontrollers, digital signal processors, and PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) used in flight and propulsion systems of commercial airliners, automobiles, industrial automation, and space flights - all owe themselves to the works of Control Engineers.
• Electronic Circuits: Electronic circuits made up of resistors, capacitors, inductors, diodes and transistors are used to work out a specific function in a machine. It is Electronics Engineer who masters in this field. Radio engineering, radar systems, communications to smallest chips in our systems are all dependent on electronic engineering.
• Microelectronics: Very small electronic circuits have become a separate field in itself. Further, this one has developed to Nanoelectronics and uses a significant amount of knowledge in chemistry and quantum mechanics.

Besides these, Electrical & Electronics Engineer can also branch out to Signal Processing, Telecommunications, Instrumentation Engineering, and Computer Engineering specializations. Mechatronics is another derived field related to Electrical Engineering.
