The Union Cabinet has approved the amendment to a bill that aims to provide an institutional device for preventing, prohibiting and punishing unfair practices in higher educational institutions.

On Wednesday, the Union Cabinet has approved the amendment to a bill that aims to provide an institutional device for preventing, prohibiting and punishing unfair practices in higher educational institutions.

The purpose of the Prohibition of Unfair Practices in Technical Educational Institutions, Medical Educational Institutions and Universities Bill, 2010 is to curb the profiteering element in some institutes which are currently beyond the scope of any such regulation.

The amendments have been made on the recommendations of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Human Resource Development (HRD). As per the bill, it has been made mandatory for all the institutions to disclose information related to admission process, and it will bring accountability in the system and check unfair practices. It is expected that with the enactment of the bill, students will get benefit as it will curtail the unfair practices in the admission process.
