Aakash 2, the latest upgraded version of the original Aakash tablet, is three times faster and has a longer battery life.

The much-hyped low-cost tablet for students - Aakash - had been stoned by students for its slow processor, a battery life of only three hours, and a touch screen that did not respond easily. Hence, Datawind has set the target of producing and supplying 70,000 improved upgraded version of the tablet - Aakash 2 -by February. The company has already supplied 30,000 tablets.

Aakash 2 is three times faster than Aakash 1 and has a longer battery life. It is great pocket-friendly solution for those who want to meet their basic digital requirements temporarily and will ultimately find other ways to access the Internet in the long-term. Read more about Aakash here.

However, some differences have also crept up between Datawind and the government, which hopefully will be resolved soon. The government said that it aims to launch the new Aakash 2 by April this year. According to HRD Minister Kapil Sibal, there is a need for as many as 22 crore Aakash tablets to cater to the demands of students. ITI has been involved to upgrade the original Aakash tablet based on the feedback from the students.

Aakash is also available for sale online on NCarry.com, which has priced it at Rs 2500.
