The Exam has been divided into two stages:

Stage 1:

  • It is conducted at states and union territory level. The states or UT select students qualifying for Stage 2.
  • The written exam comprises MAT and SAT with 100 multiple choice questions each, which should be answered in 90 minutes.

Stage 2:

  • NCERT conducts Stage 2 at national level. Only those candidates who qualified in the first round (Stage 1) can sit for Stage 2. Though first stage has quotas or pre-specified number of seats for each level, there are no state quotas for the final round. However, pre-specified reservation for SC/ST and physically challenged candidates exists.
  • The syllabus is similar to Stage 1. Those qualifying the second round appear for interview.
