CUET UG 2022: Universities admitting students without CUET Score; check names, admission process

With University Grants Commission (UGC) announcing the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for undergraduate programmes, the admission scenario in the country has taken a u-turn. Until now, not only central universities but private universities too use to enroll students based on the merit list. However, with CUET, students will now be enrolled on the basis of CUET 2022 score.

While several universities in the country adopting CUET 2022 for admissions, many private universities have also come forward to follow the trend. The private universities that are adopting CUET 2022 for UG exams from this year are: Apex University, Arunchal University, Bennett University, BML Munjal University, Career Point University, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj University, Galgotias University, IES University, IIMT University, IIMT University, Jagan Nath University Bahadurgarh Haryana, Jagannath University, Jaypee University of Information Technology, K R Mangalam University, Manav Rachna University, Mewar University, NICMAR University, NIIT University, Nirwan University, RNB Global University, Shobhit University, SRM University, Teerthanker Mahaveer University.

With many well-known universities adopting CUET 2022, the question remains how one should take admission to UG courses without appearing for the CUET 2022 exam. So, students need not have to worry as there are universities in India that provide admissions to students either on the basis of their Class 12 score or their own entrance exam.

Chandigarh University

Chandigarh University has done extremely well in terms of NIRF ranking this year by jumping from 52 position in NIRF Ranking 2021 to standing at 29 position this year. Chandigarh University offers various undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Admission to various courses is done through the Chandigarh University's own entrance exam; i.e. CUCET (Chandigarh University Entrance Test). CUCET is conducted in two phases, i..e. CUCET Phase-I and CUCET Phase-II. While speaking about the admission process, R S Bawa. Vice Chancellor, Chandigarh University, told Shiksha that “We have our own entrance test and CUET is not applicable to us. All those who wish to apply can register for CUCET by visiting our official website; i.e. cuchd.in and get admission based on merit. Students will also be awarded scholarship on the basis of their CUCET score as explained on our website.”

Jain University (Deemed-to-be-University)

Jain University is known for not only being a pioneer in academics but also in sports. Jain University has given the country some of the best sports person including Indian Cricket Vice-Captain K L Rahul, Rohan Bopanna, Robin Uthappa and many more. The varsity also won the Khelo India University Games 2021.

While the university is enrolling students this year based on merit, it is mulling adopting the CUET from next year onwards. Speaking on the same, Jain University, VC, Raj Singh, told Shiksha, that “CUET will bring all the students on the same platform. It will take out the burden on the students to perform exceptionally well in their board exams. CUET will allow them to get enrolled in the University of their choice on the basis of their knowledge and talent and not just the board exam marks. We wanted to adopt CUET this year, however, we couldn't, but we are looking forward to having it next year as part of our admission process. With so many education boards in the country, putting everyone at par by considering their board exam marks for admission is unfair. With CUET, students from all the boards will get an equal chance to enroll in any university of their choice. However, I would like to request students to not run behind the coaching centers as they will only help you work towards short-term goals. Students should rather work on clearing their concepts and nurturing what they have learned rather than blindly following the coaching centers.”
