Re-evaluation of answer sheets at DU will now become an expensive affair for students.

Delhi University has hiked the fees for re-evaluation of answer sheets and it will now become an expensive affair for students. Earlier, the fee was Rs. 500 but now students will have to pay Rs. 1000 in order to get their answer scripts re-evaluated.

Ujjaini Ray, Professor of English at Lady Sri Ram College said that this move has been introduced to discourage students from applying for re-evaluation. She added that a lot of care is already being taken to ensure that the papers are checked properly and there is a little possibility of error in judgment. Re-evaluation of paper increases the burden on the system.

She added that at the time of re-evaluation, the previous marks are shelved out and new marks are assigned and if the difference between two marks is less than five, then the initial marks are retained. If the difference is more than that, then an average of both marks is taken and assigned.

Furthermore, Dean of Examinations, RC Sharma said that re-evaluation is a costly affair. There are logistical expenses that are incurred such as petrol cost and postage expenses as the answer scripts have to be sent to the evaluator and he, too, has to be paid. He also added that there is no profit making tactic behind the hike.
