High scoring answer sheets to be re-evaluated
Class 12 board results are likely to be out by the end of May. Meanwhile, Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), Orrisa, is arranging to re-evaluate answer sheets scoring 90 per cent and above marks, before declaring the results. According to a source, approximately 2,000 students have secured 90 per cent or above in the exam. Majority of these students are from science stream and a few from arts and commerce.
The high scoring answer sheets have been segregated for re-evaluation by three subject experts appointed by CHSE. Nihar Ranjan Patnaik, chairman of CHSE spoke to TOI where he informed that the examination committee will very soon decide on how to go about these answer books.
The scrutiny will be done to ensure that the evaluation has been done in a fair manner without any prejudice towards or against any student. However, these subject experts will not be given any authority to award marks on their own. In cases where they raise any doubts about the marking, such answer sheets will be passed on to a higher level committee for further verification. According to a senior council official, the re-evaluation will be done to remove any doubt on unfair marks allocation to students and eliminate all chances of manipulation.
Jasobanta Behera, CHSE controller of examinations (CoE) told TOI that the entire process might take 7 to 10 days, and the effort is to ensure that results get published on time. (Read more)
As a consequence of CHSE's move, some examiners became wary of awarding high marks to students to avoid the hassle of re-evaluation. The higher education department had asked the council to isolate the high scoring answer sheets suspecting foul-play from some self-financed colleges trying to influence the results.
