The UPSC will be conducting the Indian Forest Service (IFS) Examination 2012 on July 14.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will be conducting the Indian Forest Service (IFS) Examination 2012 on July 14. The entrance exam will be conducted for the post of officers in the Indian Forest Service. The number of vacancies is 85 (approx.) however; it is subject to change. Recruitment for the post will be done based on entrance exam followed by a personal interview and document verification.

 Broad eligibility criteria:

  • Applicant must be between 21 to 30 years of age on July 1, 2012.
  • Applicant must be a graduate in any one of these subjects - Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology OR have
  • A bachelor's degree in Agriculture or Forestry from any government recognized university.

Exam pattern and syllabus:

  • The question paper comprises both objective and subjective type questions.
  • Questions will be asked to test English, Technical and general awareness
  • Candidate must select two other subjects for the exam from the following options: Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Forestry, Geology, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Statistics, and Zoology. Closely related subject combinations are not allowed. Please refer the link below on syllabus and exam pattern for details.
  • The exam will be conducted in two sessions of 3 hours each.
  • English and General Knowledge papers will carry 300 marks each, while two optional subjects will be of 200 marks each. The personal interview will also carry 300 marks.
