In addition to several other programmes, Mumbai University (MU) also offers PhD programmes in various disciplines. Admissions to MU PhD programmes are done by means of the university's PhD Entrance Test (PET). University of Mumbai PhD Admissions Process 2025

Mumbai University admission process is carried out online. The University mentions clearly that no offline dissemination or submission of application forms will take place. Those seeking admission to PhD must visit the official website and apply for their courses of choice.

Q:   Is there an entrance exam for MA at Mumbai University?
A:

No, the university does not conduct or accept any entrance exam for MA admission. Candidates seeking admission are only required to submit the pre-enrollment form along with the application form to get admission. However, for a few MA courses, the University/ MU-affiliated college conducts a Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) after the written test. Selected candidates, who find their names in their merit lists released by the University, are required to appear for a document verification process to confirm their seat. Q:   Can I join MBA directly at Mumbai University?
A:

No, direct admission is not available at Mumbai University. In order to pursue MBA from an MU-affiliated college, the selection is based on merit scores obtained by the students in one among MAT, XAT, CAT, CMAT, MAH CET, ATMA, GMAT, NMAT, SNAP, SMAT exams accepted by the various affiliated colleges of MU.

Q:   What is Mumbai University cutoff?
A:

The Mumbai University accepts JEE Main exam for the admission to BE and BE Integrated courses. Considering the Mumbai University cutoff 2024, the rank were released till Round 3 seat allotment. As per Mumbai University cutoff 2024, BTech in Computer Engineering stood closed at 10911 for Sardar Patel Institute of Technology, at 14262 for Dwarkadas J.   • University of Mumbai PhD admission is based on a University-conducted PhD Entrance Test (PET) for admission.
  • Candidates with a valid score in UGC-NET/SET/GATE/JRF candidates, however, are exempted from taking PET and are offered admission based on these qualifying exams.

University of Mumbai PhD Admissions - Eligibility Criteria

The University of Mumbai also accepts UGC-NET and GATE scores for admission to PhD courses. They also have a separate portal for PhD admissions (https://uomphd.mu.ac.in/)  through which aspirants can apply for the programmes. This portal is for admissions to departments that have started their admission process.

At the doctoral level, the University of Mumbai offers a PhD programme under various faculty under multiple subjects. Check a list of all the 78 subjects in which PhD is offered at MU here.

Candidates seeking admission to a PhD are required to appear for a PhD Admission Test (PET) conducted by the University. Those with a valid score in NET/ SET/ GATE/ JRF examination of the apex bodies such as CSIR/UGC/ICAR are also considered for admission.

Eligibility criteria for PhD programme for all its specialisations are as follows:

Q:   Who is eligible for LLM in Mumbai University?
A:

As per this year's 2023 admission process, Candidates who have passed LL.B. or those who have appeared for the Final Semester Examinations of the 3 or 5-year LL.B. Programme from the University of Mumbai or any other recognised University are eligible to apply for the online LL.M. Common Entrance Examination 2023. Mumbai University LLM Admission is entirely based on LLM CET exam conducted by the University.

Q:   How can I know if I am eligible for BTech at MU?
A:

 To be eligible for BTech at Mumbai University affiliated colleges, students must fulfil the below eligibility criteria:

  • They must be a pass in Class 12 with English, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as subjects and have a minimum of 45% aggregate (40% for backward categories students from Maharashtra) 
  • For Biomedical and Biotech Engineering specialisations: Candidates, along with the specialisation mentioned above, must have Biology as a qualifying exam with a minimum of 45% aggregate (40% for backward categories students from Maharashtra)

Q:   Can I do MBA without CAT at Mumbai University?
A:

Yes, you can pursue MBA without CAT at Mumbai University.  CAT is not only the entrance exam applicable for the selection process at Mumbai university. Candidates can always go for other qualifying exams like MAT,  XAT, CMAT,  MAH CET,  ATMA,  GMAT,  NMAT,  SNAP,  SMAT for admission to the MBA course at Mumbai University.

University of Mumbai PhD Application Process

Candidates willing to get admission to PhD programmes at the University of Mumbai are required to apply for the course-specific entrance exams conducted by the University online. The University does not offer an offline application process. Applications for these courses usually begin in January/ February, every year. The step-wise procedure to fill MU's PhD application form is provided below.

Step 1: Visit the university's PhD admissions portal and click on the 'Register Now' button. 

Step 2: Enter your name, and contact details (phone number and email) and create a password. Then click on 'Register'. You will receive an OTP on your email. Enter OTP and confirm registration.

Step 3: Now log in to the website using your email and new password. 

Step 4: Click on the 'Apply' button present on the dashboard. 

Step 5: Fill all the details of the application form and pay the application fee.
