Educational Qualifications for MCA in India

If you want to apply for an MCA program in India, you must meet certain academic requirements. These rules are designed so that the students will have the basic knowledge needed for understanding programming, mathematics, and computer applications at the post-graduate level. Here are the key qualifications you should know:

Most universities require candidates to have studied Mathematics at either 10+2 level or undergraduate level.

The mathematics requirement is mandatory since the course content of MCA involves logic building, programming, algorithms, and data structures, each of which requires mathematics knowledge.

3. Minimum Marks Requirement

The minimum percentage requirement is set by many institutes, usually:

  • A minimum of 50% marks in the qualifying degree for the general category students
  • A minimum of 45% for reserved categories

This percentage may vary slightly depending on the university or state-level regulations.

4. Final-Year Students Eligibility

Final-year students are eligible to apply for the MCA programmes in India. Though they need to fulfil some admission criteria, which are as follows: 

  • Present a proof of degree completion at the time of admission or counselling
  • Submit the final-year marksheet as soon as it is available

Please note that the offers of admission for final-year students are usually provisional. Admission will only be confirmed if they successfully complete their undergraduate degree, present the proof and meet the minimum required percentage/CGPA.

Exam Name

Eligibility Criteria

NIMCET

  • Must be an Indian citizen
  • Bachelor’s degree in B.Sc. (CS/IT), BCA, B.Tech/B.E. or equivalent with Mathematics/Statistics at 10+2 or graduation
  • Minimum 60% aggregate or 6.5 CGPA (55%/6.0 CGPA for the reserved category)

MAH MCA CET

  • Must be an Indian national
  • Bachelor’s degree, such as B.E., B.Tech, B.Sc., B.Com, BCA, B.Voc, etc
  • Must have studied Mathematics either in 10+2 or graduation
  • At least 50% marks for the General category/45% marks for candidates from the reserved category

BIT MCA Entrance Exam

  • Marks obtained by the candidates in the BIT MCA entrance Test 

WBJEE JECA

  • Must be an Indian national
  • Passed/appeared in the undergraduate level and final semester exam

BVP B-MAT

MCA (Full Time)

  • Bachelor's degree of minimum 3 years duration with Mathematics at 10 + 2 or graduate level. 
  • Obtained at least 50% (45% for the reserved category) in the qualifying exam

MCA Second-year Lateral Entry

  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum 3 years duration) in BCA, BCS, B. Sc (IT/CS) with Mathematics at 10+2 or graduate level
  • Obtained at least 50% (45% for the reserved category)

MRNAT

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline, such as BCA, B.Sc., B.Com, or B.A.*
  • Must have studied Mathematics as a compulsory subject at 10+2 or graduation level
  • Minimum 50% marks or an equivalent CGPA

*Candidates with a B.Sc./B.Com/B.A. may need to complete additional bridge courses as per the university's norms.

Assam JMEE

  • Must be an Indian Citizen (with a valid PRC of Assam issued by the competent authority)
  • Aged 20 - 26 years as of July 1, 2026
  • Bachelor's degree of a minimum 3 years' duration with Mathematics at 10+2 or graduation. Must have studied mathematics as a mandatory subject at 10+2 or graduation.
  • Candidate must secure a minimum of 50% (45% for the reserved category) marks in graduation.

PTU MCA

  • BCA/B.Sc. (CS/IT)/B.Voc with Computer as a major subject/Bachelor’s Degree in CSE or IT (minimum 3 years).

OR 

  • B.Sc./B.Com./B.A. with Mathematics at 10+2 or graduation level. Candidates in this category may need to complete a bridge course in accordance with PTU norms.

OR

  • PGDCA or a one-year diploma in CS/Applications/IT from a recognised institute are usually exempted from the bridge course
  • A minimum of 50% marks in the qualifying degree (45% for the reserved category).
