Graduation is a feeling that is hard to express and everyone is eager to start their jumpstart careers and start earning. While many of us get campus placements, many of us donβt and many of us donβt opt to go for campus placements. There are many prospects available to law students that they can pursue after completing their course. From becoming a lawyer or an advocate to a paralegal, a law officer, lecturer, and more, there are various legal roles offered to these graduates.
With an average annual salary offered of Rs 4 to 6 lakhs per annum (LPA), these professionals are open to working in different industries like Law firms, Government Agencies, MNCs, Judicial Bodies, Banks, Litigation, etc.
LLB Jobs and Top Recruiters
Largely career options after LLB can be classified as:
- Private jobs
- Government jobs
- Teaching job
- Advocacy
For becoming a professor it is now mandatory to have a PhD in the law field that you want to teach and thus it becomes important to appear for LLM entrance exams. The LLM is again either a one year or two years course. DU offers a two-year course but the course duration does not make a difference, opting for one year LLM course is better as it saves a lot of time. Then again many prefer to do LLM from a good university and many opt for a not-so-good type where attendance and performance are not an issue and keep preparing for the NET exam. In my opinion, opting for a reputed university is very essential as it helps in interviews also. Many pursue LLM from abroad as well.
Those who wish to go for professorship may not wish to enroll themselves with the Bar Council and those who opt for the private jobs should not enroll with the bar as it is prohibited and your enrollment can be cancelled and your thousands of money will be wasted.
For government jobs many options are open like the judiciary, APO, in PSUs (taking on the basis of CLAT LLM score). One should really work hard for all government jobs as they are few, less notified, and highly competitive.

One who is willing to start his/her own practice should immediately get enrolled in the bar and appear for the All India Bar Examination (AIBE) which is compulsory to clear to practice law in India. It occurs biannually. You cannot argue in court if you have not cleared the AIBE exam.
If you have a good CV then it is a cakewalk to get a good job. What makes a good CV is
- Field of internship, i.e., nature of work and with reputed firms/advocates
- Number of articles and research papers you have published in good journals
- Performance in Moot Court
- Participation in debates
- Participation in judgment writing competitions
- Additional courses from good universities etc.
Some of the top legal recruiters are as follows:
- Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co.
- Trilegal India, Khaitan & Co.
- DSK Legal
- Anand & Anand
- Desai & Diwanji
- Luthra and Luthra
- Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan
- Platinum Partners

But what about the students who do not have a good CV? Well, the truth is you require a good CV only if you want to work under someone, for everything else your knowledge will work magic for you. If you want to go for a corporate job and do not have a good CV you should start interning in a good firm either in your last semester or after graduation for at least 6 months which opens your chances to a job opening in the firm.
But in government jobs, your CV does not come to play, although having LL.M is beneficial in career prospects in the judiciary.
