Montek Singh Ahluwalia Pitches for FDI in Medical education sector
Medical Education Sector has always been an evergreen and an on-going sector. And the latest buzz pertaining to the sector recently has become the talk of the town. If sources are to believed,
Montek Singh Ahluwalia, the deputy chairman of the plan panel has offered to expose the medical education sector to foreign investment. Pitching FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) in the medical education sector would give it a major role to play. It would not only augment the supply of professionals, including doctors and nursing staff but also help the sector grow and expand.
The Government is already dealing with the criticisms laid on it over its decision of introducing the multi brand retail sector to foreign investment. This verdict of the government has further defunct the Parliament for the eighth day in a row.
According to Montek Singh Ahluwalia, the vision behind opening up the medical education sector to private investment sector is very critical and imperative. Showing signs of certainty, he still is in a dilemma whether private investment is allowed. The law prescribing that the only trust or societies can run a medical school in the country holds no importance and is highly outmoded in this context.
He further stated that if in the upcoming years, the private sector succeeds in setting up 10000 beds then this would the follow creation of over 30 medical schools in the country. We just hope that introducing FDI in the medical education sector proves to be a boon for the industry and helps it prosper in all aspects.
