Soon, new medical colleges in Jammu and Kashimir

Several medical colleges, including BSc nursing colleges, have been opened in the state so that students can easily access medical education facilities in the union territory. 

The Jammu and Kashmir government is taking a few measures to improve the health infrastructure and education in the state. Several medical colleges, including BSc nursing colleges, have been opened in the state so that students can easily access medical education facilities in the UT. 

According to the official information, seven government nursing colleges have been opened within the Jammu province in the past two years and two more will be opened in 2023. Two years ago, there were only two nursing colleges in Jammu and Kashmir with 50 students each, but now the situation has improved. 

To provide infrastructure, machinery and equipment in these nursing colleges, the government has approved INR 60 crore, of which INR 3.75 crore have been allotted to each college as the first instalment. 

As per the official data, five BSc nursing colleges in Akhnoor, Udhampur, Reasi, Doda and Kishtwar were the first batch of 2021-22 that was started in 2021 and the second batch is going to start soon. Nursing colleges were also opened in Kishtwar and Gangyal. These new colleges will have a student strength of 450. 

Earlier In February, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented a INR 1.12 lakh crore budget for Jammu and Kashmir for the 2022-23 year.  

2 AIIMS, cancer institutions in the offing 

RR Bhatnagar, Advisor to Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, had recently inauguarted blood donation camps in the state under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. He said seven new medical colleges, two AIIMS, two cancer institutions are coming up in the state and paediatric hospital is being made functional.
