As per latest updates, the 18 IIT Madras students who have tested positive are under quarantine. A similar approach is being followed for them as it was followed yesterday when 12 students were found positive.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has become a new hot spot after 18 new COVID cases emerged in the institute. It is just a day after 12 cases were reported from the Chennai campus, now the tally stands at 30 and experts believe that more can be reported very soon. 

As per latest updates, the 18 IIT Madras students who have tested positive are under quarantine. A similar approach is being followed for them as it was followed yesterday when 12 students were found positive. Reports even suggested that all students are stable and are under observation. IIT Madras students are being tested for any more infections. The Health Secretary of Tamil Nadu had stated yesterday that contact tracing is being done. With this, about 1500 samples are expected to be tested between today and tomorrow.

Tamil Nadu on Alert after COVID-19 surge

Tamil Nadu, especially Chennai has reported quite a few COVID cases in the last few days. The government is on high alert ever since the IIT Madras COVID cases were reported. The institute is continuing testing students and is asking them to follow COVID-19 safety protocols. Further, IIT Madras students have been asked to report and get tested in case they experience any symptoms. All students must wear masks at all times and follow COVID-19 safety protocols. The results of other samples sent for testing are still awaited.

Earlier, Tamil Nadu reported a total of 31 fresh COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, i.e. April 20, 2022. The surge made the state's Health Secretary urge people to wear masks and take coronavirus precautions seriously.
