All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has collaborated with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to offer 5,000 paid internships to civil engineering students. The internship will be held in online mode to give hands-on-experience to engineering students across the country. AICTE has also formed a dedicated web portal for the students to apply for the internship.

The students will get the opportunity to work on real-time problems on NHAI projects. According to MP Poonia, vice-chairman, AICTE, the internship opportunity will give students the necessary industry exposure in their domain. In the first phase of the internship, selected students will receive a stipend of Rs.10,000 for two months.

Based on the first phase experience, NHAI intends to increase the number of internships for the benefit of the student community. Like medical education where the internship is a crucial part of the curriculum, AICTE has made internships mandatory for engineering students as well.

Earlier, AICTE and the consortium of six oil and gas companies launched an online internship course for students and faculties, looking forward to join the oil and gas industry. As per the agreement, the internship opportunities will be offered to more than 1 lakh students, the higher education regulator said. The six companies that have joined hands with AICTE are – Dasoff Petroleum, Abu Dhabi, Citax Energy, Dubai, Petroleumsoft, UK, Wesmarty Infotech, Energivo Oil and Gas, and Shay Innovative Solutions.

Under this internship program, enrolled candidates will gain access to a series of learning content provided by the consortium of six oil and gas companies.
