Union Home Minister Amit Shah lays emphasis on imparting technical education in mother tongue, says teaching in native language of students will help them achieve a better understanding of the subject.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah laid the foundation stone of the new campus of Gujarat Technological University (GTU) at Lekawada in Gandhinagar. The university has been allotted 100 acres of land by the state government for construction of a new building. 

During the ceremony, Shah threw light on the importance of education, especially for technical courses in the mother tongue of students. He said teaching in the native language of the students would help them achieve a better understanding of the subject as opposed to simple rote-learning methods.  

The university was functioning from a temporary campus in Chandkheda, Ahmedabad. As per reports, the Gujarat government allotted a total of 100 acres of land and sanctioned INR 275 crores for the new campus. GTU was set up in 2007, by then Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who was serving as the Chief Minister of the state.  

The new university project will have a stadium and an auditorium with 18,000 square metres area for solar lighting aimed at saving electricity costs. It will have 17 small buildings each having different departments of various engineering faculties and adjacent workshop and administrative blocks.  

Atal University to offer MBBS in Hindi  

On the occasion, he also announced that MBBS will be taught in Hindi for first semester students at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vishwavidyalaya, Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. First semester medical students would be taught MBBS in Hindi from October 16, 2022, onwards, he said.
