The government aims to make Visakhapatnam a hub for aviation training and research, addressing the growing demand for skilled professionals in India’s fast-expanding civil aviation sector.
In a significant move to strengthen aviation education and infrastructure in the state, the Andhra Pradesh government has proposed the establishment of a Civil Aviation University in Visakhapatnam. The proposal was tabled during a high-level meeting between Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and officials of the Union Civil Aviation Ministry.
The government aims to make Visakhapatnam a hub for aviation training and research, addressing the growing demand for skilled professionals in India’s fast-expanding civil aviation sector. If approved, this will be India’s second dedicated civil aviation university after the Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University (RGNAU) in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh.
Officials added that the proposed university could offer specialized courses in aeronautical engineering, aircraft maintenance, air traffic control, drone technology, and aviation management. It is expected to cater to both domestic and international students, and plans are underway to integrate training programs with global aviation standards.
The government is also exploring collaborations with existing aviation institutions and industry stakeholders to develop the curriculum, faculty development, and infrastructure. The initiative is being seen as a major push to generate employment, promote regional development, and support India’s ambition to become a global aviation hub.
