Board for oral Vedic traditions & modern subjects being considered: Education minister
The idea about setting up the ‘Vedic Education Board’ was proposed by Maharshi Sandipani Rashtriya Ved Vidya Pratisthan (MSRVVP) for the first time on January 11, 2019.
During the Parliamentary discussion, Education minister Dharmendra Pradhan on July 20, 2021, told that Maharshi Sandipani Rashtriya Ved Vidya Pratisthan (MSRVVP) in Ujjain is "also considering setting up another board for oral Vedic traditions with modern subjects.” The step will be in addition to a private board the institute has already approved. Under this board, the Pratisthan has decided to offer a blend of Vedic studies and modern subjects. The MSRVVP is an autonomous body under the ministry of education. Responding to a question in the Lok Sabha, the union education minister said, “MSRVVP has given permission for a private board for blended education including both Vedic studies and modern subjects.”
The discussion took place on the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament. Stating that there are only two boards under the Centre, the ministry replied, "As of now, the Central Government has only two school boards, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS).”
Maharshi Sandipani Rashtriya Ved Vidya Pratisthan (MSRVVP) has been working on promotion of ‘Ved Vidya’. The idea about setting up the ‘Vedic Education Board’ was proposed by the Pratisthan for the first time on January 11, 2019. The topic was proposed during a meeting headed by the then HRD minister Prakash Javadekar. Talking about the aims and objectives behind the proposal, the autonomous body stated that it will benefit the students who appear for Vedic education exams. However, in the meeting, Baba Ramdev-run Patanjali group got permission to set up a new board - Bhartiya Shiksha Board (BSB) on ‘Indian knowledge systems’.
