National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS) (an autonomous body under this Ministry) has joined hands with the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). According to the official press release, the collaboration has taken place in order to conduct the "National Initiative of School Heads’ and Teachers’ Holistic Advancement" (NISHTHA) Capacity Building Program for EMRS teachers and Principals.

The society conducted the first batch of the NISHTHA Capacity Building program for EMRS Principals and Teachers from May 10, 2021, to June 23, 2021 (utilizing Summer Vacation). “The integrated program has been successfully completed. The training was conducted in a virtual mode following a blended approach, including live interactive sessions from the National Resource Group members of NCERT Faculty and at the same time NISHTHA Portal was used for training package upload, activities and quizzes,” the press note reads.

It further adds, “The integrated teacher training was provided on 18 modules that were part of comprehensive training package covering different aspects of education such as Learning Outcomes, School-Based Assessments, POCSO Act, Gender Sensitization, Health and Well-Being in Schools, Teaching of Mathematics, Language, Science, and Social Science, etc.”

5 training modules every week were shared with the participants under the training methodology through NISHTHA Portal followed by online interaction with participants. There were training modules in text form, activities, quizzes, portfolio activity, etc. In order to ascertain the impact of the training program, pre and post-training surveys were also conducted. The surveys revealed that the participants shared “very encouraging” feedback and teachers shared their interest to do more such trainings in the years to come.

A total of 120 School Principals and teachers from 26 EMRSs covering three states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Himachal Pradesh successfully completed the program being the part of the first batch. There were 54 participants from Chhattisgarh. Whereas 37 and 29 participants took part in the programme from Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh respectively, according to the information shared by Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, Smt Renuka Singh Saruta in a reply in Lok Sabha on July 19, 2021.
