National Institute of Open Schooling conducts public exams twice a year for Secondary (Class 10), Senior Secondary (Class 12) sand Vocational courses.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked all its affiliated schools to support National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) by registering as exam centres for the April–May 2026 Public Examinations.

CBSE notification mentions that NIOS conducts public exams twice a year for Secondary, Senior Secondary and Vocational courses.

CBSE notice states that NIOS depends on the infrastructure of affiliated schools for the smooth conduct of these examinations. The next Public Examinations are scheduled for April–May 2026, and schools have been requested to confirm their willingness online.

CBSE circular reads: “Your support will assist NIOS in conducting the Public Examinations for its learners.”

Schools can submit their consent on NIOS portal, https://exams.nios.ac.in, with registration window open from December 1 to December 31, 2025. The circular states that norms for establishing an examination center have also been made available on NIOS website.

Q:   What is the admission fee, registration and examination fee for NIOS?
A:
The learners need to pay the required registration fee and the examination fee. NIOS Theory Exams fee is INR 250 per subject. Students have to pay INR 120 per subject for NIOS Practical exams. Additional INR 50/- will be charged for each transaction. Students have to visit the official website for registration. A learner registering under Stream-2, Stream-3, Stream-4 and desirous to take different subjects or additional subject from parent boards, will have to pay INR 720/- per subject in addition to Admission/Registration Fee, Examination Fee and TOC fee.
Q:   What is the last date for NIOS 12th April-May exam registration process and payment of exam fee?
A:

The last date for NIOS 12th April/May Exam fee was Jan 10, 2026 with late fee INR 1600 per learner. Students can check the details regarding the NIOS 12th exam fee payment 2026 on NIOS 12th application page. Admit card will be issue for those who paid the exam fee. Students can visit nios.ac.in for completing the fee payment process. They have to pay the fees online.

Q:   Can students change their subjects after registering for the NIOS Secondary certificate?
A:

Yes, NIOS allows students who have taken admission in the Secondary level to change their subjects. Students have to pay the fees as mentioned by the NIOS. For change of subject/additional subject, students should submit their application on plain paper to the concerned Regional Centre of the NIOS through their AI. The fees for Secondary Course Rs. 720/- per subject. The subject (s) passed cannot be changed.
