The Karnataka High Court has recently upheld the CBSE Board’s decision to cancel a student’s exam for carrying a mobile phone into the examination hall. The CBSE Board Exam 2026 has highlighted the importance of following exam guidelines after the Karnataka High Court supported the Central Board of Secondary Education’s decision to cancel the examination over unfair practices during the examination.

According to reports, a student had urged the Karnataka High Court to seek relief after his board exam was cancelled due to unfair means during the examination. The candidate argued that the mobile phone was not used during the examination, and the punishment was too harsh.

Karnataka High Court CBSE Exam Case: HC Rejected Plea

The Karnataka High Court supported the board’s decision to cancel the examination. A division bench comprising Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice CM Poonacha observed that despite releasing the CBSE exam day guidelines 2026 to not carry electronic devices, the student took the phone inside the premises.

The court noted that such regulations are necessary to maintain the integrity and fairness of the examination process. Further, the court highlighted that even if the device is not used, merely carrying it inside the exam hall violates the exam day guidelines. According to the board’s updated guidelines, carrying any electronic gadget during an examination is considered a Category-3 offence. Strict actions can be taken against such candidates.
