CBSE Phase 2 Board Exam 2026: Under National Education Policy 2020, Central Board of Secondary Education has released detailed guidelines regarding submission of List of Candidates (LOC) for class 10th phase 2 board exam 2026. The move comes as part of CBSEβs newly implemented Two Board Examination Policy. CBSE notified CBSE Two board exam policy on June 25, 2025.Β
Under this system, CBSE class 10 students will now have an opportunity to reappear in up to three subjects in class 10th scheduled for May 2026. They must have appeared in main board exam to be eligible for CBSE phase 2 board exam 2026. This initiative will reduce exam stress and provide students with an additional chance to get better scores without losing an academic year.

LOC Submission for CBSE 10 Phase 2 Board Exam 2026
CBSE has directed schools to follow the process for LOC submission, which is mandatory for students wishing to appear in CBSE phase 2 board exam 2026. Schools must submit LOC for all interested students. Early submission will help CBSE arrange exam centres and logistics efficiently. - Inform students and parents about rules and eligibility criteria
- Guide them to use this opportunity only when necessary

- Clarify that exam centres may be limited and not necessarily nearby
Additionally, students are encouraged to submit LOC in the first phase. Final decision and fee payment can be made after result declaration. Those compartment categories must submit LOC again. Special provisions are allowed for students in Middle East regions affected by exam cancellations.Β
Eligibility to Appear in CBSE Phase 2 Board Exam 2026
CBSE has laid down strict eligibility conditions
- Appearing in the first board examination is mandatory
- Students can improve performance in up to three subjects (Science, Mathematics, Social Science, Languages)
- Students who missed 3 or more subjects are not eligible
- No new names can be added to LOC
- Subject changes are not allowed, except in specific cases in Mathematics
- No correction in student data will be permitted
- Facilities for CWSN candidates will continue only for previously registered students
Students falling under the following categories can appear
- Those who have passed Class 10 and want improvement
- Students placed in compartment category
- Those appearing for first/third chance compartment
- Students improving after passing with a 6th subject replacement
- Students under UFM Category 1 (if eligible)
- Sports students with prior CBSE approval
However, the following are not eligible:
- Students absent in 3 or more subjects
- Candidates under the ER (Essential Repeat) category
No Improvement in Internal Assessment
CBSE has clarified that internal assessment marks cannot be improved, as these are based on year-long performance. CBSE Second Board exam 2026 will only cover theory papers.
