CBSE inspection committee in its report has stated that spot of fall was washed immediately, destroying potential forensic evidence; delay in identifying the student because she was not wearing an ID card.

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a show cause notice to Neerja Modi School, Jaipur asking school management to explain why penal action, including possible withdrawal of affiliation, should not be taken following tragic suicide of a 9-year-old Class 4 girl student on November 1, 2025.

The student jumped from fourth floor of school building on November 1, 2025 (Saturday). CBSE notice states that the incident came to light through newspaper reports next day prompting CBSE to constitute a two-member inspection committee that visited school on November 3, 2025 and also met parents on November 12, 2025.

CBSE notice has state that it found several violations related to child safety and infrastructure at the school. The CBSE committee in its report has stated that there was no safety nets on higher floors, easily scalable staircase railings, building allegedly having more floors than permitted under National Building Code (NBC), NDMA School Safety Policy 2016, and NCPCR guidelines.

“School had not constituted a Safety and Security Committee or an Anti-Bullying Committee despite CBSE circulars dating back to 2015. Despite have more than 5,000 students, no dedicated staff monitored live CCTV footage; Class 4 student’s movement from ground floor to fourth floor went unnoticed,” report reads.

The report also states that despite visible distress and prior complaints, the child was nevr sent to the counsellor. It reads: “Spot of fall was washed immediately, destroying potential forensic evidence; delay in identifying the student because she was not wearing an ID card.”

The Board has given school 30 days to submit a detailed reply with supporting documents, failing which ex-parte action, which may include downgrade of affiliation, fine, or complete disaffiliation till March 31, 2029 will be initiated.

The parents have demanded immediate cancellation of the school’s CBSE affiliation and strictest punishment against the management and the class teacher. This is the first instance after the Pradyuman Thakur (Ryan International) case where CBSE has moved so swiftly with a show-cause notice within three weeks of a student’s death on school premises.
