Jammu and Kashmir designates JKBOSE as State School Standards Authority under NEP 2020 to ensure transparent regulation, safety, infrastructure, and uniform standards across schools.

The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced that the J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE) will act as the State School Standards Authority (SSSA) for the Union Territory. This decision follows the guidelines of National Education Policy 2020.

Thanaji Bhat, Under Secretary in the School Education Department, said that the aim of this move is to ensure transparent, independent, and effective regulation of schools across Jammu and Kashmir.

Under NEP-2020, the SSSA will separate regulatory, academic, examination, and administrative functions. It will set fixed standards and monitor compliance related to safety, infrastructure, teacher qualifications, governance, and financial integrity in all the schools under the Jammu and Kashmir Board.

The order also stated that SSSA should look into recommendations from PARAKH, the national assessment center under NCERT, which suggests that state examination boards should become SSSAs to maintain uniform standards across school boards.
Other boards, such as CBSE at the national level and boards in Himachal Pradesh and Mizoram, have already been designated as SSSAs by their governments.

JKBOSE will check the process of curriculum development, examinations, and school affiliations in the Union territory. It has the necessary infrastructure, systems, and expertise to handle the regulatory functions of the SSSA.
