Maharashtra HSC Board Exam 2026: Four people, including teachers and exam staff, have been booked for allegedly using AI Tool ChatGPT to help students cheat during Maharashtra Class 12 board exams in Gadchiroli district. The incident came to light after a surprise inspection at one of the exam centre.

The alleged malpractice was highlighted on February 18 during a flying squad inspection at exam centre No. 18 at JK Bomarwar High School in Chamorshi, Gadchiroli district. The inspection was led by Suhas Gade, CEO of Gadchiroli Zilla Parishad. Officials said they became suspicious after noticing that many students had written almost identical answers in their Maharashtra HSC answer sheets

Maharashtra HSC Question Papers Photographed and Sent Outside

According to reports, Maharashtra class 12th question papers were photographed and sent outside the exam hall shortly after paper began. A school peon allegedly took screenshots of Maharashtra HSC question papers as soon as they were unsealed. He then shared images with a teacher, through WhatsApp. The alleged teacher uploaded Maharashtra HSC board exam questions to ChatGPT to generate answers. These answers were then printed and distributed to students in exam hall.

The Maharashtra 12th board exams 2026 was held between February 10 and March 11, 2026. Maharashtra board released the Mah HSC time table 2026 on October 31, 2025.

Maharashtra HSC exams are held in two shifts. The Morning Shift is conducted from 11 am to 2.10 pm. The evening shift is held from 3 pm to 6 .10 pm. Students need to reach the exam centre on time.

You will be allowed to wear a simple analogue watch, which shows time. Any other electronic device, head phones, smart watch or digital watch will not be allowed inside the examination hall. A student is well informed before his/ her exam that he/she should only carry their stationary items in a clear pouch with their roll number sheet provided by Maharashtra Board.

This mass copying have been done in several subjects, including Physics, Chemistry, and Political Science. Authorities believe the malpractice was organised and involved staff members at exam centre. Following the investigation, the education department registered an FIR against four accused persons, including teachers, the exam centre in-charge, and a peon. Some of the accused have also been suspended from service. The matter has been reported to the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.
