The Karnataka Governor, Thawarchand Gehlot has called for a comprehensive evaluation over the state government’s decision to award grades without marks for the third language in the Karnataka SSLC exam. Secretary to Governor R Prabhu Shankar forwarded a representation submitted by the Association for Preservation of Local Languages to the state Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh.
The Association raised apprehensions about the policy’s implications for students, teachers and the broader education system.
What is the Association for Preservation of Local Languages Concern?
The representation submitted by the Association underlines the importance of the third language in promoting linguistic diversity, awareness and intellectual development among students. Shift to a grading system may diminish the academic importance of the subject. It also highlighted the long-term implications on the the quality of school education in the state.
The Chief Secretary has been asked to examine the matter in consultation with the Department of School Education and other concerned authorities
Karnataka SSLC Result 2026
