UP Board Exam 2026 Class 10, 12: Partial Marks to Be Given as Board Adopts Step-Based Evaluation System

UP Board Exam Answer Sheet Evaluation 2026: The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) has introduced a new step marking system for evaluating answer sheets in the UP Board Class 10 Exams 2026 and UP Board Class 12 exams 2026. The main objective to introducing the step-based evaluation is to make the marking process more fair and student-friendly. This will apply in subjects like Mathematics and Science.

Under this system, students will be given marks for the correct steps they write in their answers, even if the final answer is not completely correct. The decision will benefit thousands of students who show proper method but make small mistakes while calculating.

What is Step Marking in UP Board Class 10 and 12 Exams 2026?

Step marking means will ensure that the examiners evaluate the entire process of solving a question, not just the final answer. If any student have followed the correct method but made a minor error in the final calculation, will be given partial marks. For example, if a question in Math or Physics carries five marks and a student writes the correct formula and method but makes a mistake in the final step, the examiner will still have to award marks (partial) to such candidate.

This approach is already in use in many boards and in competitive exams. It helps ensuring that students are rewarded for their understanding of the concept.

Subjects Where Step Marking Will Apply

The UP Board step marking pattern will mainly be used in class 10 and 12 subjects where answers require calculations or logical steps, such as:

Subject

How Step Marking Helps

Mathematics

Marks given for correct formulas, steps, and calculations

Physics

Marks awarded for formulas and correct problem-solving method

Chemistry

Partial marks for equations, formulas, and steps

Accountancy

Partial marks for equations, formulas, and steps

Other Numerical Subjects

Marks for logical approach and correct procedure

This system is especially useful for questions that involve multiple steps to reach the final answer.
