IIM Calcutta conducts lecture on India’s G20 role
The programme hosted by IIM Calcutta included a lecture by Harsh Vardhan Shringhla, chief coordinator of G20, international politics professor Varun Sahni of JNU and international relations professor Sanjay Chaturvedi from South Asian University, among others.
Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta became one of the few universities in India to conduct a series of lectures on India's G20 presidency for its student to increase their awareness on India's role as a voice for the Global South, comprising Latin America, Asia, Africa and Oceania. The programme hosted by IIM Calcutta included a lecture by Harsh Vardhan Shringhla, chief coordinator of G20, international politics professor Varun Sahni of JNU and international relations professor Sanjay Chaturvedi from South Asian University, among others.
Talking about the conduct of lectures on India's G20 presidency, IIM-C dean Manish Thakur said ,“The students should be aware and active in observing India leverage its role to push for concerns of the Global South. In this context, we talked about diverse topics, including women empowerment and climate change.”
Thakur added that initiatives such as connecting young students with the outcome of global events like G20 keeps them directly involved in contextualizing the world with their professional aspirations as G20 touches upon a broad array of socio-economic activities.
The G20 Summit is held annually, under the leadership of a rotating Presidency. India holds the Presidency of the G20 from December 1, 2022 to November 30, 2023. The 43 Heads of Delegations- the largest ever in G20-will be participating in the final New Delhi Summit in September next year.
