Dr. Singh considers this an opportunity for him to serve as the Indian Cultural Ambassador in the United States, and said that he would do his best to further strengthen the language and cultural ties between the two nations.

BHU faculty member selected for prestigious Fulbright fellowship

Members of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) make the institution proud as they bring laurels to the university. Another name has been added to the list, with Dr. Vivek Singh, Assistant Professor at the Department of English, being selected for the prestigious Fulbright Fellowship for the Academic Year 2023–24.

Dr. Singh has been offered the coveted program for a period of nine months, during which he will be carrying out his research at the University of Mississippi and conducting sessions to teach Indian languages there. Dr. Singh considers this an opportunity for him to serve as the Indian Cultural Ambassador in the United States, and said that he would do his best to further strengthen the language and cultural ties between the two nations. He said he will be studying American social and cultural diversity, and work towards promoting Indian languages and culture.

The Fulbright programme is an international educational exchange programme. The programme is conducted by the Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) with the aim of educational exchange between the US and other countries. Over 155 countries participate in the Fulbright programme. In India, the Fulbright programme is administered by United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF).

As per the official website of USIEF, 8,000 new Fulbright grants are awarded in India annually, out of which over 350 are Fulbright fellowships. The application process for Fulbright scholarships includes evaluating past academic records and leadership skills.

• Student awards to those who want to pursue a Master’s degree or attend a US university
• Scholar and teacher awards for academics, teachers and professionals who want to teach or conduct research in the US
• Professional development programmes for those who want to improve their leadership and skill development
