Owing to the spike in coronavirus cases across the country, the Mangalore University has announced that all the degree exams scheduled to be held from April 8 to April 10, have been postponed until further notice. It is for the first time in five months, new Covid cases across Karnataka crossed the 6,000-mark in a day, with 4,266 in Bengaluru, said the state health bulletin.

Earlier, Mangalore University had suspended offline classes for the students owing to the rise in coronavirus cases. Mangalore University has suspended the offline classes only for postgraduate and research students.

Mangalore University Registrar, P L Dharma had issued a circular on the closure of offline classes on the campus. He said the decision was taken after the rising cases of COVID 19 in Mangalagangothri campus of the university. The move had come after a total of six students from different departments have tested positive. The state health department has asked the university to suspend the offline classes immediately as the infected students had many primary contacts on the campus.

Mangalore University was given the directions to tackle the situation. The university has taken certain measures in this regard. Students are asked not to step outside of the hostel until further notice.

"Karnataka is in the sixth position across the country in the vaccination drive after Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal," said state Health Minister K. Sudhakar, a medical doctor by profession.
Apart from Mangalore Universities, several other universities like JNU, DU and others have also suspended their classes and postponed
