DU students opine fees collection during lockdown unfair
The left-backed All India Students' Association (AISA) survey suggests that 96 per cent of 1,000 Delhi University (DU) students feel the collection of the fees during lockdown is unfair. Moreover, 97 per cent of students demanded a refund as they suffered financial distress amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
The survey by AISA also found that nearly 14 per cent of students lost the earning members of their families during the pandemic. Nearly, 82 per cent of students said that it was difficult to pay fees for the past three semesters. Also, nearly 77 per cent of students agreed that the online mode of education cannot be a uniform method of education. Around 87 per cent of students said that DU should take the onus to vaccinate students.ย
Recently, DU deferred after announcing the reopening of the campus for science students. AISA demanded that DU administrators must come up with structured guidelines for reopening of campus, and vaccinate all students within 10 days of reopening. Furthermore, ensure medical assistance in case of Covid infection.
"Colleges must ensure accommodation to all students returning, including space in vacant hostels and rent control. All fees collected in the past three semesters must be refunded," said AISA.
