The institute recorded rise in doctoral degree awards this academic year. Over past five years, the number of PhD graduates at IIT Bombay had ranged from around 300 to nearly 500.

As per institute faculty, this increase was partly linked to a review of students whose research had remained pending for several years. Nearly 100 to 125 students were identified with research pending for more than eight years.
