IITGN Research Programme

IIT Gandhinagar Admission: Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) has invited applications for its newly launched Visiting Students Research Engagement Programme for Semester II of academic year 2026-27. This programme offers selected final-year students from IITs, IISERs, NITs and other eligible institutions an opportunity to spend a semester at IIT Gandhinagar and undertake a research project under the guidance of IITGN faculty members.

IIT Gandhinagar Visiting Students Research Engagement Programme is designed to provide students with hands-on exposure to academic research and allowing them to work closely with faculty members at IIT Gandhinagar. Interested and eligible students can apply by October 27, 2026, by 5 pm IST. 

What iS IIT Gandhinagar Visiting Students Research Engagement Programme?

Under this programme, selected students will be admitted as visiting students at IIT Gandhinagar for a semester. During their stay, they will work on a research project in collaboration with an IITGN faculty member. Students participating in the programme will be required to register for Research Engagement, through which they can earn academic credits for their research work.

An IITGN semester is divided into four quads. Research Engagement is offered in four-credit modules, with students allowed to earn a maximum of four credits in one quad. During their entire stay, students can earn up to 16 credits of IN 497. The course will be evaluated at end of every quad. The host department at IIT Gandhinagar will award course a regular letter grade based on student's research engagement and performance.

IIT Gandhinagar Visiting Students Programme: Who Can Apply?

The programme is open to students in final year of eligible undergraduate or integrated programmes.

  • Students pursuing a four-year BTech or BS programme or a five-year Integrated Master of Science programme from IITs or IISERs can apply, subject to the eligibility requirements.

  • Final-year students pursuing BTech (four-year), BS (four-year), or BS-MS (five-year) programmes from eligible NITs and IISERs are also eligible.

  • They must have secured a CGPA above 8.0 at the end of their pre-final year.

Financial Support Under IITGN Research Programme

Selected students will receive financial support based on their academic performance during research engagement.

  • Students will be provided a stipend of INR 5,000 for every quad in which they obtain a B grade.

IIT Gandhinagar Visiting Students Programme Fees

Students selected for the Visiting Students Research Engagement Programme will not be required to pay tuition fees to IIT Gandhinagar for registration in INR 497 during their stay. However, students will have to bear the applicable hostel and mess charges. Candidates should take these expenses into account while planning their semester-long stay at IIT Gandhinagar.
