Panjab University, BSF inks MoU to improve performance of athletes

The Border Security Force (BSF) has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Panjab University (PU) to improve the performance of sportspersons and better management of sports injuries by the use of scientific methodologies. The MoU was signed by PV Rama Sastry, ADG, BSF and Yajvender Pal Verma, Panjab University registrar in presence of PU vice-chancellor Raj Kumar.

Both institutions have committed themselves to setting new benchmarks in the area of sports through joint ventures including sports and its allied field academic program, exchange of expertise with each other and the exchange of information about coaching using scientific techniques, benefitting both institutions mutually.

Meanwhile, the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government in Punjab has announced that colleges and university teachers will now be paid under the 7th Pay Commission. State Higher Education Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer applauded the decision, calling it a 'big' step by the state government, which was pending for the last six years.

Under the revised pay structure, the teachers will take home a combined INR 280 crore. Funds or the disbursement of revised salaries will be released from the state exchequer, the Punjab government said in a statement. The 7th Pay Commission as well as holiday benefits will also be extended to the guest faculty and part-time lecturers.
