COVID-19 Impact: Schools across Delhi closed until further orders
Due to increasing cases of COVID-19, all schools (including government, private) in Delhi are being closed for all classes till further orders. The Directorate of Education, Delhi, said that all academic activities shall remain suspended with immediate effect.
Owing to a spike in coronavirus cases, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced that all schools in the state will be kept closed until further orders. The chief minister said that the decision is being taken considering the rising number of COVD-19 cases. Arvind Kejriwal, through his official social media handle, said: “Due to increasing cases of COVID-19, all schools (including government, private) in Delhi are being closed for all classes till further orders.”
The Directorate of Education, Delhi, said that all academic activities shall remain suspended with immediate effect. The Directorate of Education, Delhi, in a notice, said: "In view of the sudden surge in the cases of COVID-19 in Delhi, all the Heads of Govt., Govt. Aided and Unaided Recognised Schools are hereby informed that conduct of all Academic and Examination Activities through physical mode shall remain suspended with immediate effect till further orders."
"They are further directed to ensure that no student of Classes 9 to 12 is called in the school physically for any kind of Academic or Examination Activity (like Practice of Practicals, Mid Term & Annual Examinations," it added.
Over the week, other states such as Rajasthan and Odisha have suspended classes due to rising COVID-19 positive cases in the states. Chhattisgarh postponed Class 10 board examinations and Maharashtra announced it was promoting students of Classes 9 and 11 without examinations.
Meanwhile, several students have urged the education minister to either cancel or conduct the Board Exams 2021 in online mode. However, no decision has been taken by CBSE and CISCE board till now regarding this.
While CBSE officials said the board has increased the number of examination centers by 50 per cent to ensure social distancing, CICSE officials maintained the schedule will remain unchanged.
